About Darci Shinn
After college, Darci worked for two years in Assisted Reproductive Technology and later as a compound technician in the pharmaceutical field. These roles deepened her perspective on how physical systems and chemical processes interact with the body and mind, while also highlighting for her how limiting it can feel to be disconnected from emotions and stuck in rigid patterns. With a long-standing interest in becoming a sex therapist, she pursued graduate training in 2010 through Widener University, completing dual master’s degrees in Social Work and Human Sexuality. Through those programs, she strengthened clinical skills, expanded her theoretical understanding, and built a more flexible way of thinking about how structure shapes function.
Since graduate school, Darci has worked in both school and agency settings, with most of her experience focused on adults seeking support for a wide range of concerns. Her style is person-centered and solution-focused, emphasizing collaboration, insight-building, and realistic steps that fit each individual’s needs. She views progress as something that is built over time, where small changes matter and mistakes are part of learning rather than evidence of failure.
Darci often returns to a biology-informed lens when thinking about change. In her view, “structure” includes the brain and body as well as daily routines, and caring for those structures can influence “function,” such as thinking, decision-making, processing experiences, and increasing awareness. This framework aligns with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which explores how thoughts and behaviors influence one another. By intentionally shifting thought patterns and responses, increasing awareness of habits, and making purposeful adjustments to environment and routine, clients can practice responding to life in ways that feel more aligned with their goals. She particularly enjoys using CBT strategies to make self-talk more helpful and less harmful, and she values incorporating movement and exercise as part of supporting overall functioning.

Practical approaches, flexible online support
Darci Shinn draws from evidence-informed approaches that help clients better understand patterns and make workable changes in everyday life. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It can be especially helpful for noticing unhelpful self-talk, testing new ways of responding, and building habits that support day-to-day functioning.Client-Centered Therapy emphasizes a supportive, nonjudgmental relationship where the client’s values and lived experience guide the work. This approach can be a strong fit for people who want a space to sort through stress, relationship concerns, identity questions, or life transitions at a pace that feels manageable.
Mindfulness Therapy builds skills for paying attention to the present moment with more clarity and less reactivity. For many people, mindfulness practices can complement CBT by strengthening awareness of triggers, emotions, and patterns before they take over.
Finding the right approach is part of the process. Darci works collaboratively with clients to identify goals, preferences, and what is most useful right now, adjusting the focus as new insights and needs emerge.
Online therapy offers multiple ways to connect, including video calls, phone sessions, live chat, and text-based messaging. This flexibility can make it easier to get consistent support, fit therapy into a busy schedule, and choose a format that matches comfort level from week to week.
