About Thomas Dukes
He began his first mental health role in 1996 at a Medicaid-funded dual diagnosis treatment center serving individuals with primary psychiatric concerns and co-occurring substance use disorders. Encouraged by colleagues to pursue formal clinical training, he started graduate study in 1998 while continuing full-time work in multiple programs to broaden his experience with different treatment approaches and levels of care.
His professional path includes work within a psychiatric crisis stabilization unit in Palm Beach County, The Drug Abuse Foundation in Delray Beach, and a juvenile intervention facility in Broward County. After completing graduate training in 2000 and activating his license, he practiced as a therapist at the Renaissance Institute in Boca Raton. Following 9/11, he began building a private psychotherapy practice and expanded services to include work with EAP programs, sober house residences, and treatment facilities.
In 2010, he closed his practice and relocated to western North Carolina, where he later served for ten years as a clinical supervisor at Pavillon until November 2020. He continues to reside in North Carolina and maintains an active Florida license as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Now semi-retired, he remains committed to offering guidance and direction to those seeking support.
